Letter requesting designation of extremist groups & asylum granted to Victims of persecution in india
The IRF Community and India Working Group circulated a letter urging Secretary Blinken to address escalating violence against Indian Muslims perpetrated by Hindu extremists, particularly under the guise of "cow protection." The recent brutal murder of two Muslim men, Nasir and Junaid, in Haryana highlights the impunity with which vigilantes, often affiliated with extremist groups like Bajrang Dal and the RSS, operate. These groups have ties to police forces and political leaders, including Prime Minister Modi’s BJP, exacerbating religious discrimination and violence in India. The letter emphasizes the broader pattern of attacks on religious minorities, citing the 2002 Gujarat riots under Modi's leadership and the suppression of dissent, including banning a BBC documentary critical of Modi’s role. It calls on the U.S. to designate extremist groups like RSS, VHP, and Bajrang Dal as terrorist organizations, deny their members visas, and condemn cow-protector violence. Additionally, the group requests asylum for the families of Nasir and Junaid to protect them from further harm, urging swift U.S. action to prevent further religious violence and potential refugee crises.
