Letter in Support of Stopping Azerbaijan's Attack on Armenia

Letter in Support of Stopping Azerbaijan's Attack on Armenia

The IRF Community and Middle East Working Group circulated a letter urging President Biden and Secretary of State Blinken to take immediate action to prevent Azerbaijan’s genocide against Armenia, beginning with its siege and invasion of Nagorno-Karabakh. They call for revoking the 2022 waiver of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act until Azerbaijan ensures humane conditions for Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, protects their rights, provides restitution for losses, and complies with international law. The plea highlights Azerbaijan’s blockade, displacement of over 50,000 Armenians, and widespread incitement of racial and religious hatred. It condemns the U.S. administration’s silence, which Azerbaijan may interpret as complicity, as well as Turkey’s support for Azerbaijan’s actions. The letter underscores the urgency of preventing the potential erasure of Armenians from their historic lands, maintaining U.S. commitments to human rights, and standing against international lawlessness. The groups urge swift intervention to uphold justice and protect Armenia’s sovereignty.
