Letter Requesting Sanctions on azerbaijan in Response to Persecution of Armenian Christians

The IRF Community and Ad-hoc Committee to Save Nargono-Karabakh (Artsakh) circulated a letter addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by Azerbaijan's blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), which has trapped 120,000 indigenous Christian Armenians, including vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. It urges President Biden, Secretary Blinken, and Secretary Gina Raimondo to take decisive actions, including imposing sanctions on Azerbaijan, halting arms sales, and rescinding the Section 907 waiver of the Freedom Support Act. The letter also highlights the dire conditions created by the blockade, such as the lack of access to food, gas, electricity, and humanitarian aid, as well as Azerbaijan's threats to shoot down humanitarian air transport. Citing genocide warnings from multiple NGOs, it calls for U.S. diplomatic efforts to ensure unrestricted humanitarian access, the deployment of international peacekeepers, and the protection of the Armenians' rights and safety as an indigenous population.
