Letter to Council of Europe on Foreign Daesh Members

Letter to Council of Europe on Foreign Daesh Members

The IRF Community, Free Yezidi Foundation, and Coalition for Genosice Response. circulated a letter calling on the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to endorse a draft resolution addressing the prosecution of Daesh foreign fighters. The resolution, authored by Special Rapporteur Pieter Omtzigt, advocates for an international tribunal to prosecute genocide and for domestic courts to prioritize cumulative prosecution for terrorism and international crimes. The coalition highlights the ongoing plight of affected communities, emphasizing the need for justice and accountability to prevent further atrocities. They warn against the trend of Daesh members evading responsibility by exploiting legal systems and urge strict measures to prevent impunity. While supporting the repatriation of children, they caution against reuniting them with perpetrators. The coalition urges the Assembly to act decisively in solidarity with victims and survivors, ensuring Daesh members do not escape justice.
