IRF Roundtable Applauds Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Passage of S.R. 52

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C., Mar 27 – IRF Roundtable Applauds Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Passage of Senate Resolution 52

The International Religious Freedom Roundtable (IRF Roundtable) celebrates a significant step forward in the fight for global religious freedom as the Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted Senate Resolution 52 out of committee. This bipartisan resolution, sponsored by Senator James Lankford (R-OK) and co-sponsored by a diverse coalition of senators, reaffirms the United States’ commitment to advancing religious freedom worldwide and calls for strengthened efforts to protect individuals persecuted for their faith.

Moving Senate Resolution 52 out of committee marks a critical milestone in the legislative process. The resolution now moves to the full Senate for consideration, where the IRF Roundtable urges swift adoption. If passed, this resolution will send a strong message to governments and policymakers globally, emphasizing the United States’ unwavering dedication to defending religious freedom as a fundamental human right.

The IRF Roundtable recognizes the substantial leadership of the Congressional Working Group co-chaired by Anna Sineva and Kyle Cristofalo, who played a pivotal role in advancing this resolution. This week, they delivered a multi-faith letter in support of Senate Resolution 52, backed by 131 signatures from individuals and organizations committed to protecting religious freedom worldwide. Their dedication underscores the broad coalition of support behind this critical effort.

“Today’s vote underscores the broad, bipartisan support for protecting the fundamental right of every individual to practice their faith freely,” said Nadine Maenza, Co-chair of the IRF Roundtable. “As religious persecution continues to rise in many parts of the world, it is imperative that the U.S. Senate takes decisive action by passing this resolution.”

The IRF Roundtable will continue engaging with lawmakers, faith leaders, and human rights advocates to ensure that this resolution receives the attention it deserves. The organization also encourages individuals and institutions to voice their support by reaching out to their senators and urging them to vote in favor of the resolution.
